Pre-Flight is a $2,500 diagnostic across strategy, finance, technology, and operations. Built for owners of $1M–$15M businesses who want a clear, honest read — whatever the reason they're asking.
Most owners we work with aren't lacking intelligence, drive, or operational instinct. They built businesses doing $1M, $5M, $10M a year using exactly those traits. The same proximity that makes you effective in the business is what makes it hard to see it from the outside.
That gap matters in different ways for different owners.
Some owners come to Pre-Flight because something is off and they can't fully name it. Some come because they're planning a move — a market, a hire, a system, a financing structure — and want a structured read before they commit. Some come because the business is running well and they want a check on a specific area: the tech stack, the financial reporting cadence, the operational design, the organizational structure. Some come for all three.
Pre-Flight isn't built for one situation. It's built for the read itself — a structured, two-week outside diagnostic across strategy, finance, technology, and operations, delivered as specific findings ranked by what will move the business most if addressed first.
Not a sales pitch. Not a free discovery call. A paid, productized diagnostic — built to either give you a clear path forward or send you back to work with quick wins you can execute yourself.
Pre-Flight is the entry-point engagement in Angevin's altitude stack. It's how we get to know a business at depth before recommending anything beyond it.
The structure is fixed. Same scope, same deliverables, same timeline every time:
Three days for intake and documents. Seven days of analysis. Three days for report delivery and the readout call.
Strategy. Finance. Technology. Operations.
A 9–12 page written report with five ranked findings and a set of time-sequenced quick wins. A 60-minute readout call to walk through it.
Self-execute the quick wins, engage Angevin for The 30,000-Foot View, or pursue a defined project with us. Whichever fits — recommended based on what we actually find, not what we'd prefer to sell you.
Not a free discovery call.
Pre-Flight is paid, productized work. The fee is what makes it real.
Not a sales pitch in a report.
Most clients leave Pre-Flight with quick wins they can execute themselves. We're fine with that. The clients who need more know they need more by the end of the readout.
Not a full assessment.
Pre-Flight is the gauge check. The 30,000-Foot View is the deep diagnostic. Different altitudes, different scopes.
Not custom scope.
Pre-Flight is the same engagement every time. The findings are specific to you. The structure isn't.
The Pre-Flight Report runs 9–12 pages. Designed to be read in 20 minutes by a busy owner and reread in detail by anyone on the leadership team. Same structure every engagement:
The three findings that matter most, stated plainly. The recommended next step.
Ranked by impact, not by category. Each finding answers four questions: What's happening. Why it matters. What it's costing the business. What to do about it.
Diagnostic context across all four areas — Strategy, Finance, Technology, Operations. Specific observations. Material flags. No filler.
Actions the team can execute without us. Sequenced for momentum across 30, 60, and 90 days. Scaled to be self-executable. If you do nothing else after Pre-Flight, you do these.
One of three: self-execute, The 30,000-Foot View, or defined project. The logic is explicit. You see exactly why we're recommending what we're recommending.
The report lands in your inbox 24 hours before the call. You read it on your own. You come to the call with questions.
The call is 60 minutes. Recorded if you want it. The leadership team can join. We walk through the findings, answer what's unclear, and have a direct conversation about the recommended path forward.
No pressure to buy anything else. If the right answer is self-execute, that's the conversation we have.
You complete a four-question fit check, then checkout. Within minutes, you receive a welcome email with the intake form, document request list, and a link to schedule the kickoff call.
You complete an 18-question intake (15–20 minutes) and upload the required documents. We hold a 60-minute kickoff call to walk through what we've already seen and surface anything the documents don't capture.
We work the diagnostic. You may receive a single clarifying email if something needs to be confirmed. Otherwise, the week is silent on our end.
Report lands in your inbox 24 hours before the readout call. You read it on your own.
60-minute call. Direct conversation about findings and the recommended path forward.
Clock note
The two-week clock starts when intake and required documents are both received. If you need more time to gather materials, the engagement pauses without penalty. The scope doesn't expand to absorb delays.
Pre-Flight
Flat. Self-serve checkout. No proposal, no scoping call, no negotiation.
The guarantee
Before we start, you tell us — through the pre-purchase fit check, the post-purchase intake, and the 60-minute kickoff call — exactly what you want this engagement to surface. The questions you don't have answers to. The decisions you're stuck on. The areas you want examined. The Pre-Flight Report answers those questions specifically. If at the end of the readout the report hasn't given you a direct, useful read on what you asked us to look at, you get the full $2,500 back. The standard isn't subjective — we set it together at the start.
The recommendation depends on what we find.
$35,000
$5,000 credit
If the findings indicate structural work across multiple areas, your $2,500 fee credits $5,000 toward The 30,000-Foot View booked within 30 days. Two-for-one weighting because the right next step shouldn't be a budget conversation.
Scoped to findings
$1,250 credit
If one specific area dominates — strategy is sound but the tech stack is holding you back, or operations are tight but financial reporting is the gap — your $2,500 credits $1,250 toward a focused engagement on that area, booked within 30 days.
Nothing further
Report + quick wins
If the findings are within your team's capacity to act on, you walk away with the report, the quick wins, and a clear path forward. No further engagement, no upsell, no obligation. This is a legitimate outcome and not an unusual one.
The 30,000-Foot View is a $35,000 engagement, by invitation. Multi-week. Full diagnostic across all practice areas. Leadership team interviews. A complete strategic roadmap with sequencing and execution support. Pre-Flight is the most common path in, but not the only one — vetted referrals from existing clients or partners can enter directly.
You're a fit for Pre-Flight if you recognize yourself in one or more of these:
You're at a transition point.
The business is doing $1M to $15M in revenue, and the next phase — growth, expansion, restructuring, succession — needs a clearer plan than the one in your head.
You're hitting friction you can't fully name.
Something is off. Margins, operational tempo, team performance, decision speed. You know it. You just haven't been able to pin it down from inside.
You want a real read before you commit capital or capacity.
A new market, a new hire, a new system, a new financing structure. You want an outside diagnostic before you move.
You've built it on a craft and outgrown the founder-only operating model.
No CFO, COO, or CTO yet. You've been the operator and the strategist at once. The business is past the point where that scales.
You're healthy and want to stay that way.
Things are working. You want a structured outside look to confirm what's strong, identify what's quietly weakening, and plan the next phase with clarity.
Pre-Flight is industry-agnostic. The diagnostic works across professional services, regional services, manufacturing, construction, technology, and most SMB categories in the $1M–$15M revenue range.
If you're at the edge of any of those criteria, send us a note. We'll tell you straight whether Pre-Flight fits or whether a different conversation makes more sense.
You're pre-revenue or under $500K in annual revenue.
The diagnostic is built around financial and operational data that early-stage businesses don't have yet. Send us a note — we may have options that fit your stage better, even if Pre-Flight isn't it.
You're in active distress —
running out of cash in the next 60 days, in active litigation, or facing an urgent crisis. Pre-Flight's two-week structure is too slow for those situations. Reach out and we'll route you appropriately if we can.
You're looking for tax advice, legal advice, or specific insurance products.
Those are regulated domains. We work alongside your CPA, attorney, and broker — we don't replace them.
You're hoping for validation only.
The report is honest. If the business has issues, the report names them. If the business is in good shape, the report says that too. If what you want is reassurance regardless of what we find, this isn't the right engagement.
You don't have decision authority
for what comes after. We'll deliver Pre-Flight to anyone — but the value compounds when the person reading the report can act on it.
If you're at the edge of any of these — close on revenue, between stages, uncertain about fit — send us a note. We'd rather have a 10-minute conversation than turn away someone we could have helped.
Send us a noteIt's the gauge check. Before a pilot takes off, they walk the aircraft and confirm every system is reading correctly. Pre-Flight is the same idea applied to a business — a structured outside read across strategy, finance, technology, and operations before any commitment to deeper work.
The metaphor runs through Angevin's full engagement model: Pre-Flight (the gauge check), The 30,000-Foot View (the strategic diagnostic), the Flight Plan (the 90-day execution blueprint), and Landing the Plane (the implementation work). Each altitude has a specific role.
Pre-Flight is the most common starting point — but it's not the only one, and it doesn't lead to a single predetermined next step. Where it goes depends on what we find.
Because free consultations are sales pitches in disguise. Pre-Flight is real work — analysis, document review, written deliverables, and a 60-minute working session — delivered against a fixed scope. The fee makes it the engagement it actually is, not something dressed up as something else. It also filters for clients who are serious about getting a real read on their business.
Pre-Flight is the standard entry for new clients. Vetted referrals from existing clients or partners can enter The 30,000-Foot View directly. The reasoning for the standard path: The 30,000-Foot View is a $35K engagement and we don't take it on without first confirming fit at the Pre-Flight level. Pre-Flight also produces findings that shape how The 30,000-Foot View gets scoped — starting deeper work without that orientation tends to cost the client time and produce a less precise engagement.
If you believe you should bypass Pre-Flight, send us a note. We'll have a direct conversation about whether that's the right call.
Angevin's senior practice leads. Not analysts, not associates. The person reviewing your business at the diagnostic level is the same caliber of operator who would lead The 30,000-Foot View if you engage at that altitude.
The required document list is real, but it's not a perfect list. If a document doesn't exist — say you don't have formal strategic planning documents, or your process documentation is minimal — that's itself a useful data point. We'd rather know upfront than have you delay or skip the engagement. Note what doesn't exist and submit what does.
Confidentiality is built into every Angevin engagement by default. Everything you share — intake responses, documents, the kickoff and readout call content, and the final report — is treated as confidential and is not shared outside Angevin under any circumstances. The report is delivered to you only and is not distributed externally.
If a formal non-disclosure agreement is required before sharing materials, Angevin maintains a mutual NDA that protects both parties — full confidentiality coverage for your business information, with reasonable protections in place for Angevin's methodology and work product. The mutual NDA is the default for clients who want a signed agreement on file. We don't sign third-party NDAs by default, but if you have specific concerns or constraints, send us a note and we'll work through them directly.
The findings. We tell you what we'd do if it were our business.
If the issues we surface are within the team's capacity to address, we recommend self-execution with the quick wins. If the findings indicate structural work that exceeds what an owner-led team can resolve, we recommend The 30,000-Foot View. If one specific area dominates everything else — tech stack, financial reporting, operational design — we recommend a defined project or fractional engagement focused on that area.
The path follows the findings. Not the other way around.
The guarantee is anchored to what you tell us at the start. Through the pre-purchase fit check, the post-purchase intake, and the 60-minute kickoff call, we identify together the specific questions and areas you want Pre-Flight to address. If the report doesn't give you a direct, useful read on what we set out to surface, you get the full $2,500 back. Request the refund within 7 days of the readout call and it processes within 5 business days. The standard is set together at the beginning — not subjective at the end.
As soon as you check out. The post-purchase intake and document request hit your inbox within minutes. Two-week clock starts when intake and required documents are received.
Pre-Flight is industry-agnostic by design. The framework — Strategy, Finance, Technology, Operations — addresses how the business *operates*, not the craft the business is built on. The way you run vendor relationships, structure your team, design your tech stack, manage cash, and protect against risk applies whether you run a construction firm or a creative agency. Angevin doesn't tell a contractor which materials to use or a clinician how to treat a patient — that's your expertise. We work on the business *around* the craft.
The categories below cover the SMB landscape Pre-Flight applies to:
If your business isn't listed, it's almost certainly because the list is grouped broadly — not because Pre-Flight doesn't apply. Send us a note if you want confirmation.
If the diagnostic uncovers something that needs immediate attention — a material risk, a financial issue, a compliance concern — we flag it directly during the engagement, not just in the final report. If it's urgent enough that the standard two-week timeline doesn't fit, we have a direct conversation about how to handle it.
Yes. The kickoff call and the readout call can include up to three additional leadership team members at no additional cost. The intake form is designed to be completed by the owner or a designee. If you'd like the team to see the report, you control distribution — it's your document.
The value of an outside diagnostic doesn't depend on why you're asking. Something is off, something is changing, or something needs a sharper read — Pre-Flight gives you a structured outside view of your business in two weeks. What proximity makes hard to see, Pre-Flight makes visible.
